IBM’s gen 5 FlashCore Modules use Everspin MRAM instead of capacitors to protect against data loss from power failures.

FlashCore Modules (FCMs) are IBM’s proprietary SSDs, with the gen 5 version being computational SSDs as they feature hardware compression, deduplication, die striping, and cyber-attack detection. The FCM5 uses QLC (4 bits/cell) NAND with an SLC (1 bit/cell) incoming write zone. There are five FCM5 raw capacity points; 6.6, 12.2, 26.4, 52.8 and 105.6 TB, with the maximum effective compressed capacities being 19.8, 36.6, 79.2, 158.4 and 316.8 TB.
