IBM plans to deploy what it describes as India’s largest quantum computer early next year at the newly developed tech park in Amaravati, a top executive said. The facility will focus on developing practical applications for quantum computing and helping Indian enterprises prepare their IT infrastructure for post-quantum cryptography.

“I think the facility is almost ready… Machines should be here early next year,” Sandip Patel, managing director of IBM India, told ET. The project, backed by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is part of IBM’s Andhra Pradesh Quantum Valley initiative, which it is executing in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services.

Patel said creating the infrastructure was only one part of the task; developing applications and the capabilities to use the machine would be equally important.
