IBM Selected for DARPA Quantum Benchmarking Initiative Stage C, Advancing Toward 2029 Fault-Tolerant System — BigGo Finance

International Business Machines Corporation (IBM, NYSE: IBM) announced it has been selected to advance to Stage C of the Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI), a program led by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). This means IBM’s quantum hardware, technology, and systems engineering solutions will undergo deeper hands-on testing and validation by an independent team of experts to assess whether the company can deliver an industrially valuable fault-tolerant quantum computer by 2033.

Jay Gambetta, IBM’s Director of Research and IBM Fellow, said that advancing to QBI Stage C validates IBM’s strength in its fault-tolerant quantum computing development roadmap. He noted that IBM expects to deliver its first fault-tolerant system in 2029 and plans to continue expanding the commercial value of quantum computing beyond that point.
