Why “rip and replace” is a false choice
Broadcom’s VMware changes have introduced new licensing, cost, support, and ecosystem questions for customers who have relied on VMware for years. For many organizations, the first reaction may be to make the fastest available decision — accept the new VMware model, move to one of the bundled offerings, and revisit strategy later.
The problem is that it can become expensive later. A move to VCF 9 or VVF 9 may still require significant planning, architecture work, hardware evaluation, application-dependency mapping, and operational change. If an organization knows it wants more flexibility, investing time and budget into a temporary destination may only defer the decision while adding more complexity.
Many wonder whether to move everything at once. An alternative course is to start reducing VMware dependency in a way that protects the business.
