Arc Raiders is, by all reports, a contender for the latest game of the year. In a multiplayer world full of enemy drones and military robots, every human player is at the mercy of the machines – and everyone else. Can you trust the other robber you discovered underground on your way back to humanity’s safe haven, or will they shoot you and take everything you just looted? It’s perhaps surprising that humanity (mostly) chooses to band together, according to most people I’ve spoken to about this game.
In a review for Gamespot, Mark Delaney paints a beguiling picture of Arc Raiders’ war story-generating potential, highlighting its surprisingly hopeful tone as what sets it apart from similar multiplayer extraction shooters: “In Arc Raiders, we can all kill each other. The fact that most of us choose instead to lend a helping hand, if not a sign that humanity will prosper in the real world, at least makes it one of the best.” best…
