How Microsoft, OpenAI went from partnership to ‘situationship’

The headline here I like, Microsoft and OpenAI broke up. And you kind of talk about how this relationship, you say it devolved from marriage to situationship. Uh, what does that mean, Hayden? What what exactly changed here?

Microsoft and OpenAI’s relationship has been a very interesting one over the years. Um, there’s been a lot of drama, a lot of changes. They started out in a pretty exclusive partnership and then, you know, as they renegotiated their contract over the years, it kept getting less and less exclusive. Now, um this past fall was the time that they pretty much said, hey, we don’t have any real ties to each other anymore. Let’s just, you know, basically be in a situationship. aka, you know, we we’ll we’ll coexist but there’s no ties here. And that is what um their Microsoft’s AI chief Mustafa told the Verge that that was the real turning point for Microsoft in terms of being able to really directly compete um in the AI…
