Historian to present in Vestal about possible IBM, Holocaust links

GREATER BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – An author and historian is coming to Greater Binghamton next week to give a presentation about links between IBM and the Holocaust.

Edwin Black first published “IBM and the Holocaust” in 2001, alleging that IBM helped to organize all of the phases of Nazi Germany’s effort to exterminate the Jews.

Black writes that IBM punch card technology was used to identify and exclude Jews from German society.

He says it then helped to deprive them of their finances and drive them into ghettos.

Finally, Black alleges that punch card technology custom-designed for the Nazis was used to facilitate the transportation and extermination of Jews in concentration camps.

Black says IBM workers in Endicott produced between five and 10 million punch cards daily to assist with the effort.

He says it’s his first visit to Greater Binghamton since 2019.
