What happened?

Shares of enterprise technology company Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE:HPE) rose 12.2% in the afternoon session after rival Dell Technologies reported spectacular quarterly results, indicating exceptionally strong demand for artificial intelligence (AI) servers.

Dell’s strong first-quarter results, reported after the market closed the previous day, ignited the entire AI server sector. The company’s revenue of $43.84 billion far exceeded estimates, driven by a staggering 757% year-over-year increase in AI-optimized server revenue.

As HPE competes in overlapping markets such as AI servers and enterprise networking, investors saw Dell’s success as a strong indicator of demand for HPE’s products. Shares closed the day at $43.10, up 11.9% from the previous close.
