San Francisco | On Wednesday, Sameer Samat, the head of the Android operating system at Google, took the stage to unveil a remarkable new feature his company has been working on with its partner Samsung, the largest maker of Android phones.

At the “Unpacked” launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S26 family of phones, Samat showed an artificial intelligence agent – software running on the phone that can act autonomously on a user’s behalf – reading a family group chat about a pizza night and then ordering all the items mentioned in the chat through a local pizzeria’s app before returning to confirm the order
