For mathematician Hannah Fry, the definition of artificial general intelligence (AGI) is somewhat unclear. But, she says, if we assume that AGI is at least as good as most people at any task involving a computer, then we’re almost there. “I think AGI really isn’t far away. I really think we’re going to see seismic changes in the next five to 10 years.” New scientist spoke to Fry about her love and fears of AI and why we shouldn’t treat it as godlike, with untouchable knowledge.
