The Greek shipowner’s family office is redirecting capital towards listed equities. Its Nvidia exposure illustrates how industrial fortunes can acquire new growth engines while retaining risks that cross sector boundaries.

A shipping fortune can travel far without buying another vessel. For Maria Angelicoussis, one destination is Nvidia, the semiconductor company at the centre of the artificial intelligence investment boom.

Her family office, Nicrone, has made Nvidia one of its largest listed holdings as it shifts investment towards public equities. Laura Lavers, a former hedge fund executive overseeing its British arm, has led that change.

The holding’s size, purchase dates and investment return remain undisclosed. That limitation matters: an exceptional stock-market performance does not establish an investor’s actual profit.

The more consequential story concerns capital allocation. A fortune built by transporting physical cargo is buying exposure to computing infrastructure, extending a family tradition of investing shipping proceeds beyond the fleet.

A new portfolio direction, an established family practice

Nicrone reportedly began with more than $1 billion around four years ago. Lavers took charge of its British operation roughly three years ago, and the investment approach has increasingly favoured listed shares over private markets.
