The recent wave of layoffs across the tech sector has left the next generation of Australian workers wondering whether they are being sold the lie that they will be key players in the next industrial revolution.
Struggling software-as-a-service company Atlassian said Thursday it would cut 1,600 employees, calling the restructuring a big bet on AI. Former Microsoft manager and Atlassian technology chief Rajeev Rajan also lost his job in the reshuffle.
The announcement came after Afterpay owners Block and WiseTech reduced their workforce by 4,000 and 2,000 respectively at the end of February.
All of the Big Four banks have also announced major layoffs or offshoring as part of the so-called AI revolution.
