American director Gore Verbinski, who appears in competition at the Taormina Film Festival with “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die,” spoke about the challenges of labeling the use of AI in films as the technology continues to grow exponentially.

Verbinski’s latest work, a genre-bending sci-fi film that stars Sam Rockwell as a time-traveling madman who recruits help to save humanity from the threat of artificial intelligence, prompted the director to delve deeply into new tools. When asked about the consequences AI will have on filmmaking, the veteran issued a warning: “You should check this box to say your film won’t use AI, and it’s about to get very complicated.”
