Digital ID support in Google Wallet has been slowly expanding within US states and, more recently, with passports in select countries. Now, Google Wallet is adding digital ID support in India.
Announced today, Google Wallet is bringing in support for Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials in India, a result of Google’s ongoing partnership with UIDAI.
The “Aadhaar ID card” is a digital-first ID that is issued to contain “demographic data” including “name, address, gender, date of birth, and photograph of the Aadhaar Number Holder.” Previously, the “card” was held only in a dedicated app.
Google explains a few ways you’ll be able to use these credentials right away:
