A five-year, multistate lawsuit against Google will now end with a $700 million settlement.
Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings announced on May 4 that a federal court will approve the agreement, wrapping up an antitrust lawsuit over the company’s control over Android app distribution and in-app payments. Delaware joined the 2021 case with 52 other attorneys general.
The settlement secures relief for consumers effected by the “app store monopoly” nationwide, according to a press release that afternoon.
The majority of funds will head directly to those who made purchases on Google Play between August 2016 and September 2023. Most recipients won’t need to fill out a claim form, according to the release, and should expect payments through PayPal or Venmo.
If impacted consumers do not have access to those platforms, they can file a claim online.
