Google has started rolling out ads in AI mode, which is the company’s “answer engine” rather than a search engine.
AI mode has been available for a year and is free to everyone.
If you pay for Google One, you can switch between advanced models in AI mode, including Gemini 3 Pro, which generates an interactive interface to answer questions.
So far, Google has refrained from showing ads in AI mode because it makes the experience more attractive for users.
At the same time, Google has been slowly pushing users towards AI mode, hoping that people will get used to the idea and eventually use ChatGPT or Google Search.
Now Google is introducing ads in AI responses.

These ads are labeled “sponsored” because Google must comply with the country’s laws, and they are similar to the usual links (quotes) in AI answers.
We noticed that these ads appear at the end of the answer, as opposed to quotes, which mostly appear in the right sidebar.
