Google has opened its first office in Pakistan, marking a new chapter in the company’s decade-long investment in the country. Google says its activities have contributed more than Rs 3.9 trillion to economic activity involving Pakistani businesses and households over the past 10 years, while supporting more than 960,000 jobs.
At the Islamabad office opening, Google Vice President Wilson L. White said, “We are committed to Pakistan’s IT export goals.” He outlined three areas of focus for the company: investing in Pakistani people, supporting manufacturing and infrastructure linked to hardware exports, and working with local businesses. Google also said it has helped more than one million Pakistanis build digital skills through career certificate programmes and partnerships with schools and teachers.
