After beta testing for the past several weeks and months, Google Messages today officially announced Mentions and the Trash folder.

Mentions was first previewed earlier this month with other new Android features, but Google today announced the “launch of Mentions in Google Messages” to make sure the “right person finds your message right when you need them.”

When you mention someone in an RCS group chat by using @, “they get a notification, even if the chat is muted.”

This helps everyone to find and read relevant messages to them, which promotes more engagement in group discussions.
