Just a few days after the “big” Google Maps received its gradient icon redesign, Google Maps Go has followed suit.
For those unaware, Google Maps Go is effectively a lightweight wrapper for the Maps experience in browsers designed specifically for low-power Android handsets. The functionality is limited compared to the “full-fat” version of Maps, but if you have an older phone or an entry-level model, you still get much of the same experience without taking a performance hit, as it requires less storage, works on slower networks, and is a little more efficient.

Often, these kinds of apps aren’t updated as frequently for various reasons, but to Google’s credit, Google Maps Go already has the new gradient app redesign ready and should be rolling out right now. As we note, the new icon is identical to the Google Maps icon, but it includes the “GO” tagline with a light drop shadow arc to make it clear that this isn’t the same application….
