A new AI feature from Google is rolling out across Australia on Wednesday that could fundamentally change the way millions of people use Gmail, Drive, YouTube and search – by allowing the Gemini chatbot to connect the dots across a user’s digital life.
The feature, called Personal Intelligence, begins rolling out in Australia this week to eligible Google AI subscribers, with wider access for free users expected to follow.
Unlike other AI chatbots that rely only on the question asked of them, Google’s system can access apps like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and search history (with permission) to create answers based on a user’s habits, travel plans, purchases, and personal preferences.
In practice, this means Gemini can provide better answers because it may already know where you travel, what restaurants you like, what videos you’ve recently watched, and even where you parked your car.
