Reports of an apparent Google Fiber outage surfaced Friday, with users in San Francisco and elsewhere reporting service disruptions, according to the outage-tracking website Downdetector and posts on social media.
Downdetector data showed a sharp increase in complaints tied to Google Fiber around noon, a sign that at least some customers were experiencing connectivity issues. Because the site relies on user submissions, the reports did not necessarily reflect the full scope of any disruption.
“We are aware of an issue impacting your service at this time,” Google Fiber, an Alphabet-owned broadband service that operates in select U.S. cities, said in a statement on its website. “We have dispatched a technician to investigate and are working to restore service as soon as possible. We will provide updates as they become available, so there’s no need to contact us.”
