Every year, hundreds, if not thousands, of the tech industry’s brightest minds gather in sunny California for a conference where the latest announcements and profound predictions for the future of space are made.
Ten years ago, Google CEO Sundar Pichai took the stage to announce that the company was now “AI first,” which in the bleak past of 2016 seemed a far-fetched statement at best.
Now, in the midst of the AI revolution, Mr. Pichai has laid out his clearest vision yet for an “Argentine” AI future, describing a world in which artificial intelligence systems not only answer questions but increasingly act on behalf of people.
Speaking at Google’s annual I/O event on Tuesday and Wednesday, hosted by news.com.au, Mr Pichai repeatedly returned to a central theme: the next era of AI will be defined by autonomous digital agents capable of carrying out complex, lengthy tasks for users.
