Every year, hundreds, if not thousands, of the tech industry’s brightest minds gather in sunny California for a conference where the latest announcements and profound predictions for the future of space are made.

Ten years ago, Google CEO Sundar Pichai took the stage to announce that the company was now “AI first,” which in the bleak past of 2016 seemed a far-fetched statement at best.
