BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A half-a-million grant from Google was awarded to Berkeley Electric Cooperative, with officials claiming the money will be used to support improvements and services without the Lowcountry.
The $500,000 follows a $250,000 grant in 2025, the same year Google announced it was expanding the Berkeley County data center campus.

The $250,000 grant in 2025 was for upgrades in 44 Lowcountry households. Officials claim the upgrades will save households “hundreds of dollars” in energy costs each year. With the 2026 grant, those upgrades will be expanded.
