Google is understood to be in talks to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic, pairing capital with reserved infrastructure at a massive scale. The structure reflects a growing trend of hyperscalers pre-selling AI capacity to secure long-term workloads and align infrastructure with demand.

According to reports, the deal includes an initial $10 billion investment, with up to $30 billion tied to performance targets. Separately, Google would supply up to 5 GW of computing power to Anthropic over five years. The companies have not publicly confirmed these terms.

The model ties capital to output and aligns it with pre-negotiated capacity. Hyperscalers are securing large workloads in advance and then building out the full footprint that will support them.
