Google announces water project related to planned Pine Island data center

PINE ISLAND — Google, the tech giant behind the proposed data center in Pine Island, announced Thursday plans to “support the Trust for Public Land’s efforts to restore 84 acres of floodplain forest, establishing a 1-mile corridor along the Zumbro River to improve water quality.”

The project is part of what Google calls its overall efforts to be a good steward of water resources.

The company, in a press release dated June 3, 2026, touted its water replenishment efforts, which it says includes 165 water stewardship projects in 97 watersheds across the country.

“Today, we’re proud to announce $17 million in support of new projects to advance our water stewardship ambitions in the following seven states,” Google said, listing projects in Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Texas, Missouri and Minnesota.
