Google and Pinterest cut Bay Area jobs as tech layoffs linger

Google and Pinterest both disclosed plans to trim scores of tech jobs in the Bay Area in layoffs that are poised to jolt workers in three of the region’s cities.

According to information from the Employment Development Department, Pinterest has decided to eliminate 118 jobs – 102 in San Francisco and 16 in Palo Alto. Google intends to cut 77 jobs in Sunnyvale.

All of the cuts are expected to be permanent, according to the EDD.

The Google layoffs are scheduled to occur over a period that begins on March 15 and ends on April 12, official filings show. The Pinterest reductions are slated to take place on March 31, according to the EDD.

Plans for reductions by the two companies arrive on the heels of a December 2025 upswing in Bay Area tech hiring that was primarily concentrated in the South Bay.
