Former IBM campus on San Jose hilltop bought by tech firm eyeing high-power computing uses

A former IBM research campus in San Jose could soon get a second life as a technology hub under the ownership of Blackstart Digital.

An affiliate of Blackstart Digital is under contract to acquire the 35-acre, seven-building property at 650 Harry Road by the end of the year, Mercury News reported. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. 

Blackstart is looking to revive the complex after the San Jose City Council voted in August to rezone the campus as an industrial park, while designating surrounding vacant land as open space. Blackstart said it has no plans to develop the more than 500 acres of surrounding open space, which it described as an important community resource.

“Our first goal is simply to put this campus back to work in a way that honors its legacy,” the company told Mercury News.
