Long-time Neowin readers and Windows enthusiasts are probably familiar with Live Tiles, a feature that became part of the Windows desktop during Windows 8 and later made its way to Windows 10 as well under Project Neon. Sadly, beyond Windows 10, Live Tiles never took off and did not make their way to Windows 11.
Now an unofficial project is set to bring the feature back in an unexpected way, as an ex-Microsoft engineer has confirmed he is working on a new mail app called DayFrame, and could become a rival to Outlook. Given that the app, especially in its classic form, has been quite buggy lately (though many may not mind this latest issue), it’s possible that some users could be looking for useful alternatives.
