Former federal chief information security officer Chris DeRusha has recently joined Google Cloud as its global public sector compliance director. Chris DeRusha had previously served as the federal CISO since early 2021 until he departed last month. In his new role at Google Cloud, DeRusha will be reporting to Jeanette Manfra, who is the global director of security and compliance. Manfra expressed excitement for DeRusha joining the team, citing his extensive experience in designing and implementing critical infrastructure and security programs in both the public and private sectors as invaluable for Google Cloud and its global public sector customers.
Prior to his federal roles, DeRusha served as the chief information security officer for President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign and held the position of state security director for Michigan. With a background in both industry and government positions at the Office of Management and Budget and the Department of Homeland Security, DeRusha was recognized with a Fed 100 honor in 2023 for his work on implementing cybersecurity directives across government entities.
