We’ve said it before and we’re saying it again: If you’re planning to upgrade or build a new PC, the sooner you snag the hardware, the better. That recommendation comes courtesy of yet another sign that memory shortages are affecting inventories of a number of PC parts, including discrete graphics cards. The culprit for all this disruption is likely AI, which is driving the construction (and expansion) of numerous data centers.
Although American retailers have stock of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 50 Series cards, some European retailers might be experiencing supply issues. A Reddit user who claims to sell PC parts posted an image of a purported letter from a distributor that warns of a five-unit cap for the RTX 5070. What’s more, as Videocardz notes, the letter indicates that the unidentified German distributor is completely out of the RTX 5070 Ti, 5080, and 5090.
The crunch appears to have hit the distributor out of the blue, as it writes that the cap and shortage “…applies to both existing orders as well as any orders placed after December 30th.”

The Reddit user claims that roughly €20,000 in RTX 5070s were canceled, along with orders for the other graphics cards.
