The GPU servers arrived weeks ago. The firmware still needs updating across half-a-dozen mismatched vendors. The Kubernetes cluster isn’t serving a single inference request. This is the reality of enterprise AI deployment in 2026 — and the problem Broadcom aimed to put to rest when it unveiled VMware AI Factory at VMware Explore 2026 on August 31. The platform claims to collapse what has historically taken weeks of multi-team, multi-vendor provisioning into a matter of hours, by automating the entire journey from physical bare-metal server to live AI model inference inside a single operational environment.

The announcement marks the clearest articulation yet of Broadcom’s post-acquisition strategy for VMware: position VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) not just as a virtualization successor but as the stack that enterprise IT organizations run AI on — on their own hardware, on-premises, with their data never leaving the building.

Why Enterprise AI Deployments Take Weeks Today

Every enterprise team that has received GPU-equipped servers in the past two years faces the same sequence of delays. Day one: OS images need pushing, firmware requires updating across a fleet of mixed-vendor hardware, and network fabric needs configuring. None of…
