dollar tree (DLTR) shares rose 4% on Wednesday after the discount retailer outperformed key Wall Street metrics, adjusted earnings, revenue and same-store sales growth.
Revenue grew 9.4% to $4.75 billion, slightly ahead of Street expectations of $4.7 billion, according to Bloomberg consensus data. Adjusted earnings per share were $1.21, significantly higher than the $1.10 expected. Same-store sales grew 4.2%, more than the expected 4% increase. The average ticket increased by 4.5%, partially offset by the 0.3% drop in traffic
“All consumers are looking for value, combining that value-seeking behavior with convenience and discovery is the intersection where Dollar Tree thrives,” CEO Michael Creedon told investors on its earnings conference call.
It said 3 million more households are now part of its customer base compared to last year, and high-income consumers, earning more than $100,000 a year, make up the majority of new customers.
