DTA raises alarm about “low-effort” AI

The deputy head of the Digital Transformation Agency has cautioned officials eager to dive into the rapid efficiencies that artificial intelligence is said to offer that AI is still not a replacement for integrative system design that goes well beyond online interfaces and bots.

Lucy Poole, the DTA’s deputy executive director for strategy, planning and performance, strongly defends the need for human oversight by the Commonwealth’s current centralized technology deployment and procurement agency and expresses the urgent need for public servants to take a hard look at the new tools they use to ensure they don’t fail.
