Amazon Web Services’ plan to develop a data center complex at Wallula Gap got its most public airing at a well-attended open house Tuesday in Burbank.
The data center arm of the Seattle ecommerce giant welcomed hundreds of area residents to Columbia High School, where representatives shared general information about its first data center project in the Mid-Columbia.
The crowd included curious neighbors, business leaders from Walla Walla and the Tri-Cities and members of the Walla Walla Anti Data Center League.
The league is actively lobbying Walla Walla County to halt the project and enact a one-year moratorium while it studies potential impacts.
Inside, Amazon representatives touted the company’s 20-year history of building data centers and its commitment to being a good neighbor to its communities and to paying its own expenses.
The open house did not provide more details about the Wallula plan beyond what Amazon disclosed when it submitted environmental review…
