Australian data center operators expect to benefit from President Donald Trump’s proposed new laws to control the export of artificial intelligence chips over their regional rivals. But others warn that the high-stakes sector will be more reliant on the unreliable favor of the White House.

A report on Thursday evening (AEDT) revealed that US officials had drafted legislation that would restrict the shipment of AI chips anywhere in the world without US approval.
