As we continue to invest in America’s AI infrastructure, Anthropic will cover the electricity price increases consumers face in our data centers.

Training a single-frontier AI model will soon require gigawatts of power, and the U.S. AI sector will need at least 50 gigawatts of capacity in the next few years. The country must quickly build new data centers to maintain its competitiveness in AI and national security – but AI companies should not leave the costs to American taxpayers.

Data centers can increase electricity prices for consumers in two main ways. First, connecting data centers to the power grid often requires costly new or upgraded infrastructure such as transmission lines or substations. Second, the new demand tightens the market and drives up prices. We are committed to addressing both. Specifically we will:

  • Coverage of network infrastructure costs. We will pay for 100% of the network upgrades needed to connect our data centers through increases to our monthly electricity…
