Construction of Microsoft data center could begin in late April or early May

Construction of the Microsoft data center in Granger could begin in late April or early May.

The exact date of the ground breaking has not been released.

St. Joseph County Councilman Dan Schaetzle posted an update on the Microsoft project on his Facebook page and Bill Schalliol confirmed the information.

Six data center buildings will be built, and each building will employ about 50 people for a total of 300 jobs.

Microsoft did not ask for any abatements. They will pay full property taxes. Schaetzle says that money will help PHM, the library, county and township governments. He said it will replace tax dollars lost because of Senate Enrolled Act 1.

Microsoft will pay for all infrastructure upgrades. Those upgrades include widening Cleveland Road to four lanes from the Bittersweet Roundabout to the railroad tracks.
