Amazon and Anthropic made the Claude Platform on AWS generally available this week, giving AWS customers direct access to Anthropic’s native first-party platform through their existing AWS account. The launch follows the April 20 expansion of the Amazon and Anthropic partnership, which committed Anthropic to spending more than $100 billion on AWS over ten years and brought Amazon’s total investment in the company to $13 billion, with up to $20 billion more tied to commercial milestones.
The announcement sits next to Claude on Amazon Bedrock rather than replacing it. That distinction matters more than the launch itself because it reflects a structurally different way of pairing a hyperscaler with a frontier AI lab, arriving at a moment when the original template for these arrangements is visibly fraying.
