Erotic chatbots, video-synchronized and voice-activated devices captivated visitors to a sex toy trade fair in Shanghai this weekend, as China’s adult product makers join the global AI trend.
China is the world’s largest sex toy manufacturer, and the country’s entrepreneurs have fully adopted AI tools in other sectors as well.
While some companies at the show said they were aware of the legal risks posed by machine-generated sexual content, others were keen to promote their expanded products during AFP’s visit on Friday.
Banners scattered across the large exhibition hall promoted a Guangzhou-based company’s “AI Character Dating” app Luvmazer, which turns conversations with virtual partners into vibration pulses.
“One sentence can make you shudder,” the banners promised.
In a large display case at the Cydoll booth was a life-size, metal-jointed, cyberpunk-inspired silicone doll that factory manager Zhou Yuanqing said was a prototype intended to show “natural” emotions and speech.
