I don’t know what I expected. Not that. I blame the robots. I blame the penguins.

The economy of 2025 has challenged people’s certainty.

A permanent crisis. An excitement. Contradictions and causes, chaos and change.

The markets are at record highs, but it doesn’t feel like a party because so many people aren’t invited.

Wait, wait – the global trade uncertainty index is higher than it was during COVID or the global financial crisis (GFC). And gold has also reached record highs, rising 67 percent in a year!

This is what people buy when they fear the world is collapsing.

Meanwhile, our corporate watchdog is investigating our (essentially) monopolistic exchange provider – the ASX – after “repeated and serious failures”, a phrase that could have been said about it at any time in the last decade.

(I guess when ASIC sued the exchange operator last year for misleadingly claiming that a project to replace its systems was “progressing well”, it probably suggested that things were not “progressing well”).
