The worst suburbs for illegal dumping complaints have been listed as the city council reveals it has deployed more cameras with AI technology across Brisbane to catch offenders.
Illegal dumping costs the city about half a million dollars each year, and on Tuesday it emerged that complaints had more than tripled in the past 12 months.
By the end of May, approximately 830 complaints had been registered and more than $525,000 in fines had been issued during that period.
“We have a zero-tolerance approach to fare evasion,” Customer Services Chairwoman Sarah Hutton said outside the council chambers on Tuesday.
“We are cracking down on people who think they can turn our city into a landfill.”
CCTV footage released on Tuesday showed several people throwing away household appliances, beds, mattresses and other items.
