Acclaimed chef Carlos Altamirano is about to unveil its ninth restaurant concept in the Bay Area at a very well-known location in San Francisco.
Altamirano, the pioneering Peruvian chef behind NoPa’s eponymous Altamirano Restaurant & Bar, plans to open a new Latin and Californian eatery nearby at 701 Second St. in SoMa Oracle Park.
Casa Sofia Kitchen and Bar, named after Altamirano’s 10-year-old daughter, is scheduled to open in mid-May, just like that San Francisco Giants The season continues into summer, the chef told SFGATE in an exclusive interview. The former Brixton space is cavernous and has 120 seats in the main dining room and 52 more seats between two private dining areas.
Altamirano didn’t comment on interior details, but reportedly expected pinks and greens, lush plants, huge murals and local woodwork by a Berkeley artist. Altamirano and his wife and co-owner Shu worked with famed San Francisco designer Jon de la Cruz on the interior design, which…
