Canada launches AI usage registries for the federal government

Today, the Honorable Shafqat Ali, President of the Department of Finance, released the Government of Canada’s first public statement AI Registry, providing Canadians with information about where and how AI is being used within the federal government.

The register represents an important milestone in the ongoing implementation of the federal public service’s AI strategy, which guides the introduction of AI in all federal institutions. It is also consistent with the government’s commitment to modernize public services, increase productivity and ensure every public dollar delivers the greatest possible benefit to Canadians. By giving institutions a clearer view of AI activity across government, the registry will serve as an additional tool to support planning, reduce duplication and help departments identify opportunities to work more efficiently.
