A Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO)-backed financing vehicle is reportedly in talks to raise $70 billion to $80 billion in debt for a chip-financing deal that would support AI companies like Anthropic, CNBC’s David Faber confirmed on August 20, with Bloomberg separately reporting that the total arrangement could reach $100 billion once all pieces are counted.
The proposed structure consists of two tranches: a junior tranche of around $30 billion to $35 billion and a senior tranche, which gets repaid first and is estimated to be between $45 billion and as much as $60–70 billion depending on the report.
Scaling An Existing Model
The funding stems from a platform Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO) unveiled in June to enable 20 gigawatts of AI computing capability for companies such as Anthropic and OpenAI, which is roughly equivalent to the output of 20 nuclear power plants.
