Matt Kimball, VP and principal analyst with Moor Insights & Strategy, saw the change as sufficiently limited and short-lived to make its value unclear.
“This is just delaying the inevitable slightly,” he said. “This doesn’t change that inevitable migration to VCF, VVF or an alternative. If I am an enterprise CIO looking at this, it doesn’t alter my strategic thinking.”
He said that, for a CIO who needs to modernize infrastructure and operations to remove the friction associated with operationalizing across business units, this is an infrastructure discussion. It’s equal parts hardware and software, looking at how the organization deploys, provisions, manages, governs, and optimizes them.
