Breaking news: Telstra joint venture plans to cut up to 209 jobs as it further develops AI projects

Telstra will cut 209 jobs from its AI joint venture (JV) with consultancy Accenture.

The $700 million joint venture was announced in early 2025.

The purpose of the business vehicle was to improve business processes.

A JV spokesperson told the ABC: “…we have spoken to the Telstra Accenture Data & AI Joint Venture (JV) team today about planned changes to the workforce, including reducing positions where work is no longer needed and moving some work to the JV team in India.”

“These changes would see the JV leverage Accenture’s global capabilities, advanced AI expertise and specialist center in India to accelerate Telstra’s data and AI roadmap.”

It is unclear how many jobs in the joint venture will be relocated to India.

“We expect this will result in improved cost efficiencies over time and deliver an enhanced experience for Telstra customers,” the JV spokesperson said.

In July 2025, Telstra announced it would reduce headcount by 550 Telstra Enterprise employees.
