A US jury has ruled against Elon Musk in his lawsuit against OpenAI, finding that the artificial intelligence company is not liable to the world’s richest person for allegedly deviating from its original mission to help humanity.
The trial began on April 28th. It was widely seen as a defining moment for the future of OpenAI and artificial intelligence in general, both in terms of how it should be used and who should benefit from it, including financially.
People use AI for countless purposes such as education, facial recognition, financial advice, journalism, legal research, medical diagnosis and harmful deepfakes.
Many people express distrust of the technology and fear that it could displace people from their jobs.
The verdict followed 11 days of testimony and arguments in which the credibility of Mr. Musk and Mr. Altman was repeatedly attacked.
Each side accused the other of being more concerned with money than serving the public.
