BLANDING, Utah (KUTV) — A middle school student in Blanding is drawing national attention after being named a finalist in Google’s annual Doodle for Google competition, earning a $10,000 college scholarship and a shot at having her artwork featured on the company’s homepage.
Olive Harris was selected as one of five finalists from more than 30,000 entries submitted by K-12 students nationwide. This year’s theme, “My superpower is,” asked students to highlight what makes them unique.
Her mother, Lori Harris, shared the news online, calling it a major moment for their family.
“We’re incredibly proud to share that Olive is one of five national finalists,” she wrote. “Over 30,000 kids entered, so this is a big deal for her and we are so grateful.”
Google representatives visited Olive’s school to present the award, which includes the $10,000 scholarship. As a finalist, her design will also appear on Google’s homepage as part of the competition showcase.
