The power and potential of agentic AI – adaptive, automated and independent – dominated the security conversation in 2025. Barracuda’s VP of Engineering and Managing Director explains what he expects from agentic AI in 2026 and what it means for cybersecurity.

Multiple AI agents work in tandem on actions to achieve a specific goal, with minimal or no human supervision. This opens the possibility of hijacking or poisoning agent-to-agent interactions by using information controlled by the attacker to manipulate the coordinated actions. The absence of people in the circuit could delay detection and mitigation.

The development of agentic AI will lead to a rise in adaptive polymorphic malware – malware that can analyze the victim’s environment and security tools and autonomously rewrite or modify its own code and behavior to evade signature-based and behavioral defenses in real time.

We will see multiple agents working together on actions to achieve a specific goal,…
