It is ideal for customers who may not have a large IT team, as it provides unified database capabilities that can be easily scaled. Unlike Exadata, which is more suited for large databases, the Autonomous Database caters to users with more modest capacity needs. The collaboration between Oracle and Microsoft aims to enhance interoperability between their cloud services, challenging the dominance of Amazon Web Services Inc.
Developers can provision the autonomous database running on OCI in Azure data centers, taking advantage of its high performance, security, and availability. They can also utilize various tools and platforms offered by Oracle, such as APEX, Oracle Data Studio, and data lakes supporting open data protocols. The database supports SQL queries, JavaScript documents, and processing of various data types, making it a versatile platform for developers. Pricing for the Autonomous Database on Azure will be consistent with OCI pricing, and customers can apply Azure consumer credits to Oracle services.
